With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of a beautiful soul, Carolyn Dianne Bolling, who peacefully departed this life on July 13, 2025, at the age of 78, in the comfort of her home.
Born on April 2, 1947, in Wilson, North Carolina, Carolyn was the beloved daughter of her late parents, Alma Gray Taylor Lathan and Johnnie R. Swinney, who shaped her into the strong, compassionate woman she became. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and the heart of her family. Carolyn shared three wonderful children with her former husband Charles Bolling: Shawn Bolling (Valarie), Dr. Kimberly Bolling, and Iesha Bolling, who were the center of her life. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her dear siblings, Rosvel Lathan Jr. and Sandra Breathwaite, both of Norfolk, VA.
Carolyn graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and later earned her degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland. Throughout her life, Carolyn demonstrated an unwavering commitment to others. As a passionate community activist, devout Catholic, and pillar of support for her family, she selflessly served those around her. Her faith, perseverance, and boundless love left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Carolyn’s legacy is one of grace, wisdom, and kindness. She touched countless lives with her generosity, offering strength and guidance to family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her influence will live on in the many hearts she touched and the community she helped to build.
While Carolyn is no longer with us in body, her spirit and the love she shared will continue to guide and inspire us all. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
