On the early morning of Monday, November 17, 2025, Clyde Bancroft Hewan, affectionately known as "Pops", peacefully departed this life at his home in Silver Spring, Maryland and entered his forever home with his heavenly Father. Clyde was born on August 26, 1936, in Spanish Town in St. Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies. After graduating high school, he attended trade school for carpentry, migrated to the United States and was a successful carpenter who not only built things in his own home, but also worked on buildings such as the National Archives Building, Duke Ellington School of the Arts, and three of the Red Line Metro train stations and tunnels.
Pops loved his family, good music, and being outside in his yard whether it be in the garden or simply sitting in his chair and enjoying nature. Clyde presence will be dearly missed by many.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Susan M. Hewan; three loving daughters, Sonia Walters, Daun Smith and Joan D. Hewan; Son-in-Law Cavanaugh Smith; Granddaughters Letitia Banks, Candice Smith, Simone Smith, and Jasmine Walters; Grandson Curtis Banks, Sr.; Great - Grandchildren Harmony Darden, Curtis Banks, Jr. and Carter Banks; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
