Donald Curtiss McCoy

Donald Curtiss McCoy known as “Donnie” to all who knew him was born in Westmoreland County, VA on January 1, 1958 to the late Billy and Mary McCoy. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mitchell Straughter, Jr. Donnie was educated in Westmoreland County public schools. He worked at the elastic plant in Tappahannock, VA for a number of years before moving to Arlington County, VA where he married Maureen Ball formerly of Richmond County, VA. To this union two sons were born, Dontae and Donnell McCoy. The two were later divorced and Donald moved to Washington, DC and became employed in home improvement working for a private housing development company.  

He is survived by his three sons, Kevin Kelly of Westmoreland County, VA; Dontae and Donnell McCoy of Capitol Heights, Maryland; 2 grandchildren, two nieces Darlene Brown of Ashland, VA, and Lawanda Kelly of Richmond, VA. One nephew, Mitchell Kelly of Kinsale, VA and a host of friends and relatives.

God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be
so He put His arms around you
and whispered, “Come to Me.”

With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
and although we love you dearly
we could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
