Evelyn (Mayfield) Watson

Evelyn Watson passed away February 3, 2023 at age 81 after a long fight against cancer.  Evelyn was born June 25, 1941 in Washington, DC to the late Ida and Alexander Mayfield. She was the fourth child of six children. She was educated in DC Public Schools. She married John R. Watson in 1959, and had four children from this union. They were married for over 63 years.

Evelyn worked at the Hospital for Sick Children, DC Public Schools and as a Psychiatric Nurse Assistant for 26 years at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital, before retiring in 2006.  Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her siblings. Evelyn was friendly and well liked. Her children have many memories of their mother being affectionate, caring and extremely funny.  Evelyn was close with her siblings, especially sisters Shirley, Barbara Jean, and Patricia. They never went more than a day or two without talking to each other. She enjoyed going to the casino, watching movies, trying new foods and she loved music, especially the music of Motown. Some of her favorite singers were Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, James Brown,
The Supremes, Al Green and Marvin Gaye. 

Evelyn leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband, John R. Watson; four children Michael Watson (Virginia), Eric Watson (Stephanie), Kathy Watson, and Steven Watson (Brittany); seven grandchildren London Cason, Janai Watson, Aria Watson, Eric Watson, Jr., Mariah Watson, Steven Watson, Jr. and Ashlynn Watson; five siblings, Shirley Carroll, Eugene Mayfield, Barbara Jean Myers, Patricia Mayfield, and Larry Mayfield (Maggie); lifelong friend, Gwendolyn Bell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
