James Smith, 87, of District Heights, MD, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2022. James was born on June 17, 1934 to Vane and Lizzie Smith in Atlanta, GA.
After graduating from Atlanta Public School System, he worked as a printer in Atlanta, GA. In 1954, he met Corene (Lawson) Smith, and they wed in 1955, going on to have five children, Bernard, Michael, Arlene, Darlene and Charlene.
In 1960 he moved to Washington, DC where he landed a job at Grand Union as an Offset Printer. He then went on to work for ABS Printing. In 1985 he began working for the U.S. Department of Navy as a Printer. James worked for the Department of Navy until his retirement in 1996. After retiring from the U.S. Department of the Navy, James spent his time being a chauffeur for his grandchildren, being the life of every party and enjoying his family.
James is preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Roshon Chevez Smith. He is survived by his wife, Corene Smith; his five children, Bernard (Patricia), Michael (Gail), Arlene (Mark) Barnes, Darlene Gilliam, Charlene (Kevin) Diggs; his eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
