Myrtle Olivia Berfect Thomas, a resident of Bowie, Maryland, and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, peacefully transitioned at the blessed age of 88, on March 7, 2026. Myrtle was preceded in death by her late father, Samuel Berfect Sr., mother, Ruth Reese Berfect, stepmother, Mattie Bell Berfect, brother, Samuel Berfect Jr., (Sonja), sisters Glenda Berfect Henry, Ruth Berfect Dickerson (Nolan), and Ruby Berfect Veal (Jerome). She is survived by her son, Michael (Cheryl), granddaughter Micaa’, brothers, John Berfect (Carlene), Nathaniel Berfect, Peter Berfect (Annette), David Berfect, sisters, Joyce Berfect Shelton (James Jr., dec.), Neomi Berfect-Culler (Jerome), and Dr. Cynthia Berfect-Shelby (Huegh, Sr.). She leaves two godchildren, Welden Shelton and Angie Mickens. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. Myrtle was a member of New Zion Baptist Church in New Orleans under the leadership of Pastor C. S. Gordon Jr., where she faithfully sang in the choir. Relatives and friends of the family and members of Progressive Baptist Church, and Sammy Berfect Dimensions of Faith, and Val and Love Alive Choirs are invited to attend her Homegoing Celebration.
