Sehon Miller Obituary

Sehon A. Miller was born in Washington, DC, to the late James H. Washington and Gladys A. Robb Washington on April 8, 1938. She was educated in the DC Public Schools System. She began her career as a nursing assistant at the Hospital for Sick Children before retiring from the Children's Hospital National Medical Center after 38 years of service.  She was married to the late Clyde Roosevelt Miller, Sr. To this union was born six children: Clyde, Euwanna, Vernon, Michael, James, and Jason.

She was baptized at an early age at Israel Baptist Church, where she served faithfully for over fifty years in various ministries. Sehon was a member of the Israelite Gospel Chorus, Senior Choir, Mass Choir, Missionary Ministry, Nurse's Ministry, The Flower Guild, Church Historian, and the Deaconess Ministry.  Sehon also served as President of the DC Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for over ten years. She was a member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, DC Chapter, The Lott Carey Foreign Mission, the Queen of Lott Carey Foreign Mission since 2013, Hearts and Flowers Senior Group of Metropolitan Baptist Church, The Sanctuary Choristers, Ruth Chapter #8 OES, and Northeast Sectional Vice President of the Women's Auxiliary of the Baptist Convention of the District of Columbia and vicinity for four years.

Sehon was well known in the community and the DC Metropolitan area. With a giving heart full of wisdom, grace, and energy, she inspired many and was well-loved and respected by everyone along her journey. She was a phenomenal woman, who was legendary for always sporting the best hats in town.

Sehon was preceded in death by grandsons Duane L. Heard and Darren R. Heard and brother-in-law Wilton Miller. She leaves to cherish her precious memories her children Deacon Clyde R. Miller, Jr. (Melonie), Dr. Euwanna A. Heard (Clayton), Rev. Vernon L. Miller, Sr. (Crystal), Dr. Michael L. Miller (Robin), Deacon James G.W. Miller, Minister Jason D. W. Miller, and Rondell Lumpkins (Kevin Smith); brother Leonard J. Washington, Sr. (Rebecca) and their children Cheryl, Leonard, and Maria; sister Joyce A. Shepherd (Willie) and their children Willie, Gregory, and Anthony; sisters-in-law Rev. Josephine Miller and Margaret Miller and her children Edith, Anthony, Wilton, Angela, Gwendolyn, Myron, Richard, Gregory, Cassandra, and Jeffery; devoted cousins LaVerne Branche and Mary Turner; loyal friends Mary Allen, Shirley Carroll, and Iretha Heard; over thirty grandchildren, over thirty great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
