Stephen Rickey Grant was born September 26, 1964 in Charleston, South Carolina to Stephen and Edith Grant. Stephen was affectionately known as “Rickey” to his family, and childhood friends. He attended Charles A. Brown High School where he played basketball, and graduated from Gordon H. Garrett High. After high school, Stephen served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Stephen was a life-long learner with a commitment to formal education. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Columbia Union College, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Baltimore, and a Master of Real Estate Development from Georgetown University.

Stephen’s career in finance spanned several organizations in the Washington Metro area including Children’s National Medical Center where he served as the Director of Sponsored Programs, and the Marriot Foundation for People with Disabilities where he served as Director of Finance. At heart, he was an entrepreneur. Stephen established several business ventures including Fusion Barbershop and Afritag.

At the time of his death, Stephen was employed with his church, the First Baptist Church of Glenarden. Stephen cherished the opportunity to use his professional skills to advance the kingdom of God. He was a committed Christian who acknowledged the Lord in all his ways.
