Tomiko Dawn (Griffin) Haynes

Tomiko Dawn Griffin was born on July 14, 1970, in Brooklyn, New York. Raised and loved by Hector Paul and Dawn Griffin Rodriguez. Tomiko, affectionately called, “Miko” transitioned on May 16, 2025 in Maryland surrounded by loved ones. 

She completed her academic studies in the New York City school system. On December 20, 1993, she married Kevin Haynes. Miko was employed by two NYC agencies, Business Links and Department of Environmental Protection. Miko called Brooklyn home until 2016 when she relocated to Bowie, Maryland to be care by her mother.   Tomiko was a loving mother to 2 sons.  Sean (Father: Tyrone Turner) and Kawon (Father: Kevin Haynes).   

In late 2012 Tomiko’s health began to decline but she had a zest for life and enjoyed spending time with family, listening to music, watching reality TV and going to the hairdresser and sampling different styles and colors. Her strength and resilience were evident, and she continued to smile through her challenges.  

She leaves to cherish her memory husband: Kevin Haynes, Sons: Sean Turner and Kawon Haynes, her loving mom: Dawn Griffin Rodriguez, brother: Christopher (Monique), stepsister: Tabitha (Richie), 4 grandchildren (A’maiya, Mi’amor, Kawon Junior, Amirah ) 3 nieces,1 nephew, and a host of uncles, aunts, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by the twins Maki and Makayla

The Magic of a Mother’s Touch 

There’s magic in a mother’s touch and sunshine in her smile. There’s love in everything she does to make our lives worthwhile. We can find both hope and courage. Just by looking in her eyes, her laughter is a source of joy. Her words are warm and wise. There is kindness and compassion to be found in her embrace, and we see the light of Heaven shining from a mother’s face.
