Violet Veronica Gilbert was born in Basseterre, St. Kitts on March 7, 1957 to the late Austin and Rosetta Morton. On October 18, 1986, Violet married Charles Gilbert in St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands.
In November 1990, Violet and Charles and their four children migrated from the U.S. Virgin Islands to Maryland. Her children were her pride and joy and she boasted about them to everyone she knew. Violet was a celebrant. She loved people and she loved to celebrate them. Violet had many gifts and she lavishly showered her family and everyone around her with these gifts. She was a gifted interior designer, and her home was always complete with immaculate settings. Her dining room was always set in royalty. Everyone that came to her home was always fed spiritually and physically. She blessed countless people with her culinary skills which included staple Caribbean dishes and desserts. Violet had a lengthy and successful career in Real Estate and Property Management. She often threw holiday parties for her beloved residents and supplied them with whatever they needed. She always went above and beyond.
Violet leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 38 years, Charles Gilbert, loving children, Gizelle Gilbert, Kareem Gilbert, Gabriel Gilbert, Gabriela and Tiarra Gilbert. Also cherishing her memory is her grandson, Mekhi Gilbert; siblings Rueben Morton, Joycelyn Morton, Tyson Morton, best friend, Brenda Levine, and countless nieces and nephews as well as extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents Austin and Rosetta Morton, daughter Ornjelle Gilbert, and sister Pearl Morton.
